Welcome to St Johns Centre
Just Kidz Saint Johns is a purpose- built centre in the beautiful grounds of Colin Maiden Park. We have passionate, dedicated staff who strive to provide children with an authentic, quality environment which is warm, accepting, safe and welcoming to all.
With three different rooms staff are able to value each child’s Holistic Development and respect their Aspirations, Creating Empowerment, Confidence and a sense of Belonging for all the different age groups. Children are encouraged to learn through experience and participation, thus allowing opportunities for problem solving and risk taking. Our teachers assist children to develop high self-esteem, to be able to co-operate with others and show mutual respect for one another.
Our friendly caring staff are highly focused on teamwork, commitment and professionalism so as to enhance each individual child’s passion, skills and needs.
We endeavour to create an environment which values and respects nature and encourages children to make their own discoveries and theories. We also value the contribution and role played by parents and whanau recognising our dual heritage in Aoteroa and valuing the cultural diversity of New Zealand. We strive to work in participation with parents/Whanau to create little minds with great imagination and creativity to enable them to become lifelong learners.

ERO report St Johns 2018
Children and families experience a centre environment that is welcoming and inclusive. Children are happy and engaged in their learning. They demonstrate a strong sense of belonging. Children have good opportunities to play and learn together, and develop their social skills. They freely choose from a variety of areas of play that cater for their interests and preferences.
Children experience close and trusting relationships with staff. Teachers are respectful, and support children well in their play and exploration. They help children to develop their confidence to talk about their ideas, and describe their play and learning.
Infants and toddlers receive good quality care and appropriate learning opportunities in a calm environment. They benefit from the nurturing interactions they experience with their primary carer. Teachers follow children’s preferences and create areas and activities that promote their interests and exploration.
Māori children’s cultural identity and knowledge are respected and built-on by staff. Teachers have a good understanding of te āo Māori, including te reo and tikanga Māori. They have an ongoing commitment to enhancing culturally responsive teaching practices that contribute to positive outcomes for Māori children and children from other cultural backgrounds.
The centre manager demonstrates a collaborative style of leadership that builds on teachers’ talents and capabilities. Teachers meet regularly to plan activities and resources that reflect children’s current interests.
The centre is very well led and governed. The owners and centre managers review policies and procedures regularly. Internal evaluation is well understood and is increasingly being used as a tool for ongoing improvement.
Meet Our Team
Head Teacher Preschool
Kia Ora, I am Prema and was born in South Africa. I have 20 years teaching experience in New Zealand. I have a graduate Diploma in Early childhood and a bachelor in both Primary teaching. I am a fully certificated Teacher.
I believe that children are inherently divine. The whole world is a village to which they are entrusted. The home, school and the community are responsible for providing the child with a safe, loving stimulating environment in which they can blossom. I believe that play is important for the holistic development of the child and that it increases their curiosity, creativity and imagination. I am also sensitive and responsive to the different cultures and heritages of the children. I believe strongly in developing a strong home school partnership.
Kia Ora, My name is Jennifer but you can call me Jen. I have five years teaching experience with children of all ages and have a passion for supporting children to become competent and confident learners. I have my Degree in Early Childhood Education and am currently working towards my full registration of Teaching.
I strongly believe that all children deserve the best education and care, and that the children will guide you as their teacher to what they want to learn more about. I also strongly believe that children learn through play and exploring their environment around them, play is one of the main ways children can learn and develop. Play helps To nurture imagination and gives children a sense of adventure.
Moreover, I strongly believe that the child’s cultural background is a part of their learning journey and I as a teacher will embrace the customs of each culture in every aspect of my teaching.
