Welcome to St Johns Centre
Just Kidz Saint Johns is a purpose- built centre in the beautiful grounds of Colin Maiden Park. We have passionate, dedicated staff who strive to provide children with an authentic, quality environment which is warm, accepting, safe and welcoming to all.
With three different rooms staff are able to value each child’s Holistic Development and respect their Aspirations, Creating Empowerment, Confidence and a sense of Belonging for all the different age groups. Children are encouraged to learn through experience and participation, thus allowing opportunities for problem solving and risk taking. Our teachers assist children to develop high self-esteem, to be able to co-operate with others and show mutual respect for one another.
Our friendly caring staff are highly focused on teamwork, commitment and professionalism so as to enhance each individual child’s passion, skills and needs.
We endeavour to create an environment which values and respects nature and encourages children to make their own discoveries and theories. We also value the contribution and role played by parents and whanau recognising our dual heritage in Aoteroa and valuing the cultural diversity of New Zealand. We strive to work in participation with parents/Whanau to create little minds with great imagination and creativity to enable them to become lifelong learners.

ERO report St Johns 2018
Children and families experience a centre environment that is welcoming and inclusive. Children are happy and engaged in their learning. They demonstrate a strong sense of belonging. Children have good opportunities to play and learn together, and develop their social skills. They freely choose from a variety of areas of play that cater for their interests and preferences.
Children experience close and trusting relationships with staff. Teachers are respectful, and support children well in their play and exploration. They help children to develop their confidence to talk about their ideas, and describe their play and learning.
Infants and toddlers receive good quality care and appropriate learning opportunities in a calm environment. They benefit from the nurturing interactions they experience with their primary carer. Teachers follow children’s preferences and create areas and activities that promote their interests and exploration.
Māori children’s cultural identity and knowledge are respected and built-on by staff. Teachers have a good understanding of te āo Māori, including te reo and tikanga Māori. They have an ongoing commitment to enhancing culturally responsive teaching practices that contribute to positive outcomes for Māori children and children from other cultural backgrounds.
The centre manager demonstrates a collaborative style of leadership that builds on teachers’ talents and capabilities. Teachers meet regularly to plan activities and resources that reflect children’s current interests.
The centre is very well led and governed. The owners and centre managers review policies and procedures regularly. Internal evaluation is well understood and is increasingly being used as a tool for ongoing improvement.
Meet Our Team
Hello, my name is Stephanie and I am the centre manager of Just Kidz, St Johns. I have a Diploma of teaching, Early Childhood and am a fully certificated teacher. I have been in the early childhood sector for the past 25 years. I am married, and we have two beautiful children. Fostering respectful relationships with both the children and families are at the centre of what I believe, and always keeping the child in the heart of the matter.
Kia Ora my name is Michelle Bishop; I am the assistant manager here at Just Kidz St Johns and one of the teachers in the Kiwi infant room. I was born in New Zealand and have lived in Auckland most of my life. I have worked in Early Childhood Education in a variety of roles since graduating from the University of Auckland. I have a Bachelor of Education and full teacher certification. During my studies I developed a passion for working with infant and toddlers which has been strengthened by working with great teachers who are also passionate about this age group and committed to ongoing research and learning.
I aspire to be a teacher who inspires children to pose questions and be curious about the world they live in and develop a passion for learning.
Ayubowan, Kia Ora, my name is Ramya Morapaya and I am one of the head teachers at Just Kidz University. I am originally from Sri Lanka and I have been in New Zealand for 16 years. I have been working as a secondary teacher in Sri Lanka for 20 years and 11 years as an early childhood teacher in New Zealand. I am a fully certificated teacher. I have a postgraduate Diploma in education, and master’s in education from Sri Lanka and Graduate Diploma in Teaching from New Zealand.
I believe every child is a competent and a confident learner, so my support helps to develop holistically. Regarding my philosophy, I believe being respectful can build strong relationships with Tamariki and Whanau.
Kia Ora, I am Prema and was born in South Africa. I have 20 years teaching experience in New Zealand. I have a graduate Diploma in Early childhood and a bachelor in both Primary teaching. I am a fully certificated Teacher.
I believe that children are inherently divine. The whole world is a village to which they are entrusted. The home, school and the community are responsible for providing the child with a safe, loving stimulating environment in which they can blossom. I believe that play is important for the holistic development of the child and that it increases their curiosity, creativity and imagination. I am also sensitive and responsive to the different cultures and heritages of the children. I believe strongly in developing a strong home school partnership.
Hi, my name is Margita. I am a primary qualified teacher. I have a Bachelor of Education (Primary) and full teacher certification. During my years teaching I have discovered that the most important attribute of a successful teacher-student relationship is just that- “it is a relationship”. Getting to know each child, their likes, dislikes, their personality, the little things that make them unique and special is the most important and enjoyable part of my job.
I started working at Just Kidz at the end of 2017. With my move into the early childhood sector, I will work towards embracing the principals and strands of Te Whariki, where relationships continue to be at the centre of all children’s learning.
Talofa lava, Kia Ora and greetings to you all. I’m a teacher in the toddlers room. I’m a fully qualified teacher having joined the centre after completing my bachelor’s degree in ECE in 2017. I also hold a 3-year Diploma in Early Childhood specialising in Pasifika children. I am a provisionally certificated teacher, working towards my full certification. I’m married to a Fiji Indian and we have two beautiful girls. I look forward to working with you to enhance your children’s learning in becoming valuable citizens in the future. Faafetai (Thank you)
