Our Philosophy

A Fun Place to Learn

At Just Kidz, our mission is simple: to provide quality, affordable childcare where every child enjoys a safe, fun place to learn.

We believe that every child is capable, curious and full of potential. Through nurturing relationships, inspiring learning experiences and caring guidance from our teaching team, we encourage children to develop a lifelong love of learning while growing into confident, capable individuals.

Our centres are warm, welcoming and inclusive environments where children feel valued, respected and supported every day.

Our Commitment to Every Child

We are committed to providing an authentic, high-quality early childhood education experience that nurtures every aspect of a child's development.

Our professional teaching teams work collaboratively to support each child's individual interests, strengths and needs. We recognise that every child learns differently, so rather than expecting children to fit into a programme, we adapt our programme to reflect their interests, abilities and stage of development.

We value each child's:

  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Creativity and imagination
  • Independence and resilience
  • Rights, aspirations and individuality
  • Sense of belonging
  • Holistic wellbeing and development

Guided by Te Whāriki

Our philosophy is grounded in Te Whāriki, New Zealand's Early Childhood Curriculum, which recognises children as competent and confident learners.

Our teaching is also inspired by internationally recognised educational approaches, including:

  • Reggio Emilia from Italy, which encourages creativity, inquiry and child-led exploration.
  • Resources for Infant Educators (RIE), developed by Magda Gerber, which promotes respectful relationships and responsive caregiving, particularly for infants and toddlers.

Together, these philosophies help create meaningful learning experiences that encourage children to think independently, explore confidently and build positive relationships.

Learning Through Curiosity and Discovery

Children learn best when they are actively engaged in experiences that interest them.

Our environments are carefully designed to inspire curiosity, encourage exploration and support meaningful interactions between children, teachers and their surroundings. Natural materials are incorporated throughout our learning spaces to foster respect for nature while encouraging children to investigate, create, question and discover.

Each day includes a balance of:

  • Teacher guided individual and group learning experiences
  • Child-led exploration and imaginative free play
  • Opportunities for creative thinking and problem solving
  • Experiences that build cognitive, physical, social and emotional skills

By following children's interests, we create engaging learning opportunities that are meaningful, enjoyable and purposeful.

Celebrating Culture, Diversity and Whānau

Just Kidz proudly embraces New Zealand's bicultural heritage while celebrating the rich diversity of our communities.

We recognise and value bicultural practice by honouring the dual heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand and respecting the mana, language and traditions of Māori alongside European culture and history.

We also celebrate the many cultures represented within our centres and believe strong partnerships with parents, caregivers and whānau are essential. Through open communication and respectful, responsive relationships, we work together to support each child's learning journey.

Developing Lifelong Learners

Everything we do is centered around helping children become confident, independent lifelong learners.

Through hands-on experiences, participation and exploration, children develop important life skills while learning to:

  • Think creatively
  • Solve problems
  • Take appropriate risks
  • Build resilience
  • Develop empathy
  • Communicate effectively
  • Work alongside others

By encouraging imagination, curiosity and confidence from an early age, we help children build strong foundations for future learning.

Transition to School

Starting school is an exciting milestone, and at Just Kidz we work closely with families to help children feel confident and well prepared for the transition.

Our transition-to-school approach begins from the moment children join our centre. Guided by Te Whāriki, we believe children are naturally competent learners and continually build upon their skills through everyday experiences.

Throughout their early learning journey, we encourage children to:

  • Be curious and eager to learn
  • Participate, cooperate and take turns
  • Persevere through challenges
  • Express their ideas and emotions confidently
  • Develop empathy and positive relationships
  • Build confidence and self-esteem
  • Become increasingly independent and responsible

These skills are nurtured from infancy and continue to develop as children progress through our programmes.

Preparing Children for School Success

Our preschool programme provides a stimulating environment that supports school readiness through engaging, play-based learning.

Using an enquiry-based approach, children participate in experiences that develop:

  • Early literacy and phonics
  • A love of books, storytelling and reading
  • Pre-numeracy skills including numbers, shapes, patterns, measurement and simple calculations
  • Science and technology exploration
  • Communication and listening skills
  • Social development and teamwork
  • Self-help and independence
  • Concentration and problem-solving abilities

Daily group discussions and learning experiences encourage children to ask questions, share ideas and develop confidence while preparing them for a successful transition into primary school.
